Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
Explore UConn courses that use scientific inquiry, quantitative reasoning, technology, and engineering to understand the world and solve complex problems.
Quick Links
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics invite students to investigate the natural and designed world through observation, experimentation, analysis, and innovation. UConn courses offered through UConn ECE span the biological, physical, computational, mathematical, and engineering sciences. Across these disciplines, students develop evidence-based reasoning, technical knowledge, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for further study and a wide range of evolving careers.
To help students explore UConn courses offered through UConn ECE, academic disciplines are organized into the same six broad categories used for UConn ECE Student Scholarships. These groupings highlight connections among fields and make it easier for students to discover courses aligned with their interests, goals, and potential areas of future study. Students interested in applying for a scholarship should review the full eligibility and application requirements.
DISCIPLINES

Investigate life from molecules and cells to organisms, populations, and ecosystems through foundational biological concepts and laboratory study.

Explore matter and chemical change through atomic theory, quantitative analysis, laboratory investigation, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, and solution chemistry.

Apply vector methods and principles of statics to analyze forces, equilibrium, structures, machines, centroids, and moments of inertia.
Computer Science and Engineering

Develop computational and algorithmic thinking through programming and use computing as a tool to solve science, mathematics, and engineering problems.

Investigate Earth’s dynamic systems, atmosphere, climate, resources, hazards, and human influence through evidence-based geoscientific inquiry.

Use generative artificial intelligence responsibly for learning, creativity, and problem-solving while evaluating outputs, ethical concerns, and human judgment.

Explore ocean processes, marine environments, and interactions between people and the sea through scientific inquiry and laboratory investigation.

Develop quantitative reasoning through discrete mathematics, business applications, calculus, and multivariable analysis while modeling and solving complex problems.

Translate ideas into precise designs through computer-aided modeling, technical drawing, manufacturing concepts, and industrial design problem-solving.

Use mathematical models, experimentation, and evidence to investigate motion, forces, energy, electricity, magnetism, and other fundamental physical phenomena.

Develop quantitative reasoning through discrete mathematics, business applications, calculus, and multivariable analysis while modeling and solving complex problems.

Use data, probability, and statistical reasoning to describe variation, evaluate evidence, draw conclusions, and make informed decisions.
