Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts Application Details
This scholarship is intended to celebrate the academic achievement, creativity, and application of one’s UConn ECE experience in the area of Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts.
Eligibility
- Be a senior in high school.
- Demonstrate academic achievement and a potential for future academic and professional accomplishments in a field focusing on the Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts.
- Be enrolled in at least one UConn ECE course during the 2025-2026 academic year (any discipline).
- Previous completion of, or current enrollment in, at least one of the UConn ECE Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts courses listed below AND maintain at least a B or higher in your UConn ECE Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts course(s).
- If a final grade has not been issued, a high school transcript will be assessed for course competency.
Student Award
The student chosen for this scholarship will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with a $1,000 monetary award for use towards post-secondary education expenses. Funds will be withheld from this award to cover any outstanding balance with the University of Connecticut, to include tuition and fees for students attending UConn, prior to a check being issued.
Application Procedures
Applicant must submit the following documents:
- An essay which will be reviewed by a committee and should include details regarding your academic achievements and plans for the future. You should also describe how your UConn ECE course (or other course in the field) has helped define your college or career goals. Suggested word count 200 min. – 400 max.
- Submit a document or link to a writing sample, project, photo of artwork, music, etc., created by you, that demonstrates academic excellence or talent in Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts. Your submission will be evaluated based on originality, mastery of subject matter and presentation. Please note the following guidelines.
- Only ONE submission is allowed per applicant.
- Include a short description of your submission and explain why you chose to submit this piece.
- All artwork submitted must be clearly labeled with directional instructions so the committee knows how to appropriately view your piece(s).
- Because UConn ECE course offerings vary by high school, students who have taken at least one of the above courses may use projects from other high school courses as demonstration of academic achievement in the fields of Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts.
- A resume which includes the name and e-mail address of your instructor(s) for your UConn ECE Visual, Performing, or Digital Arts.
- A copy of your current high school transcript, which displays your outstanding academic achievement as well as enrollment in at least one UConn ECE course.
- Be sure that UConn ECE courses are easily identifiable for the committee reviewing your application.

EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, OR MATHEMATICS
EXCELLENCE IN PROFESSIONAL CAREERS, PUBLIC SERVICE, OR APPLIED STUDIES
This award is to recognize a current high school senior that is academically successful and is already making a positive difference in their town or neighborhood and is inspiring others to do the same. The student chosen for this award must be a UConn ECE student that demonstrates ambition and self-drive evidenced by outstanding achievement in both school and their community.

This scholarship is intended to recognize a high school student who has demonstrated original, impactful, and leadership-driven engagement in their community, and is inspiring others to do the same.
Eligibility
- Be a senior in high school.
- Demonstrate ambition and self-drive evidenced by outstanding achievement in both school and their community.
- Be enrolled in at least one UConn ECE course during the 2025-2026 academic year (any discipline).
- Previous completion of, or current enrollment in, at least one of the UConn ECE courses listed below AND maintain at least a B or higher in your UConn ECE professional careers, public health, or applied studies course(s).

- An essay describing:
- Describe how you have created or significantly contributed to a community initiative, providing a clear distinction between traditional volunteering or service and deeper, more innovative engagement. The essay should emphasize how your efforts have led to positive change, the unique nature of your involvement, and how you have distinguished yourself within your community. The community involvement must have occurred within the past academic year.
- Reflect on how your UConn course enhanced your ability to make a difference, drawing connections between your academic learning and real-world application in community service
- Suggested word count 200 min. – 400 max.
- A resume which includes the name and e-mail address of one reference, as well as the community engagement referenced in your essay. Reference must be different than the individual who wrote your letter of recommendation.
- A letter of recommendation from a community leader or administrator of the civic organization you are associated with attesting to your contribution to the community.
- The recommendation letter should speak to the student’s essay further emphasizing and supporting the student’s contributions to community engagement.
- A copy of your current high school transcript, which displays your outstanding academic achievement as well as enrollment in at least one UConn ECE course.
- Be sure that UConn ECE courses are easily identifiable for the committee reviewing your application.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by a committee and judged on the following criteria:
- Impact of service on the community demonstrated by essay and letter of recommendation.
- Longevity of service.
- Originality – Is the community engagement with an existing organization, or was it of the student’s own design?
- The student’s ability to get others involved in the community.
- Academic achievement demonstrated by transcript and resume.
- Financial need.

Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement and a potential for future academic and professional accomplishments in a field that involves the study or use of world languages—including spoken and sign languages—world literatures, and/or global cultures.

Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Application Details
This scholarship is intended to celebrate the academic achievement, creativity, and application of one’s UConn ECE experience in the area of Language, Literatures, and Cultures.
Eligibility
- Be a high school senior.
- Demonstrate academic achievement and a potential for future academic and professional accomplishments in a field where knowledge of an additional language enhances or supports your work.
- Be enrolled in at least one UConn ECE course during the 2025-2026 academic year (any discipline).
- Previous completion of, or current enrollment in, at least one of the UConn ECE language courses listed below AND maintain at least a B or higher in your UConn ECE language course(s).
- If a final grade has not been issued, a high school transcript will be assessed for course competency.
Student Award
The student chosen for this scholarship will receive a certificate of accomplishment along with a $1,000 monetary award for use towards post-secondary education expenses. - Impact of coursework
- Submit a document or link to a writing sample, project, video, music, etc., created by you, that demonstrates academic excellence or talent in a language other than English. Selections will be assessed on originality, mastery of the language and presentation. Please note the following guidelines.
- Only ONE submission is allowed per applicant.
- Group work should not be submitted, as committee members will be unable to determine an individual student’s language talent.
- Include a short (75-100 word) description (in English) of your submission and explain why you chose to submit this piece.
- Any artwork submitted must be clearly labeled with directional instructions so the committee knows how to appropriately view your piece(s).
- Because UConn ECE course offerings vary by high school, students who have taken at least one of the above courses may use projects from other high school courses as demonstration of academic achievement in the area of language, literatures, and cultures.
- A resume which includes the name and e-mail address of your instructor(s) for your UConn ECE language course(s).
- A copy of your current high school transcript, which displays your outstanding academic achievement as well as enrollment in at least one UConn ECE course.
